Book Description
Derrick Lawson, an aging Minor League pitcher with diminishing skills and desire, has decided that this will be the last game of his career. His son, Bud, who still dreams about baseball, about being a Major Leaguer when he grows up, is saddened by his father's decision. But something far worse is troubling him: his grandfather, his best friend, is in the hospital¾dying from cancer. Being still a young boy, with a young boy's sense of wonder and magic, Bud Lawson thinks that he can do something about that, and he sets off on a journey to find an item that his grandfather had lost when he himself was just a youngster¾thinking that if he can find this long lost treasure he can somehow magically make his grandfather well once again. And magic does indeed occur during Bud's journey, as he travels back in time to 1955, meeting up with his grandfather, who is just a young boy himself. They immediately become the best of friends, and embark on an adventure to try and answer Bud's questions: What is he doing in 1955, and what does he have to do to save his best friend? During Derrick's final game the events of his son's adventure unfold, and the magic that began with Bud finds its way into the events of the day, and into the very heart of the pitcher, returning to him something that he thought was lost forever, and altering the course of his entire life. The end of Bud's adventure and Derrick's final pitch of the game occur at the same time, in a way that is both magical and heartwarming. It is a story of a father's love for his son, a small boy's for his grandfather, and the magic that is still in all of us, no matter what the age. It is a story for baseball fans from eight to eighty, or anyone who just enjoys a good old-fashioned fairy tale.

Book Description
The Bible For Dummies (9781119293507) was previously published as The Bible For Dummies (9780764552960). While this version features a new Dummies cover and design, the content is the same as the prior release and should not be considered a new or updated product. Discover the world’s all-time bestseller in an entirely new light Ninety percent of Americans own a copy of the Bible, and while it's the most widely read book, it's also the least understood. Regardless of your religion, understanding the Bible brings much of Western art, literature, and public discourse into greater focus—from Leonardo da Vinci's "Last Supper" painting to the Wachowski brothers' The Matrix movies. People have historically turned to religion to deal with tragedy and change, and with the right insight, the Bible can be an accessible, helpful guide to life's big questions. The Bible For Dummies appeals to people of all faiths, as well as those who don't practice any particular religion, by providing interfaith coverage of the entire Bible and the often fascinating background information that makes the Bible come alive. You'll find answers to such questions as: Where did the Bible come from? Who wrote the Bible? How is the Bible put together? Follow the history of the Bible from its beginning thousands of years ago as tattered scrolls to its status as the bestseller of all time. The Bible For Dummies covers these topics and more: Ten people in the Bible you should know The Hebrew Bible The Apocrypha's hidden treasures What's new about the New Testament Israel's wisdom, literature, and love poetry The Bible's enduring influence The prophets: more than fortunetellers Whether you're interested in broadening your spiritual horizons, uncovering the symbolism of Western culture, or gaining a deeper understanding of the book you grew up reading, The Bible For Dummies has all the information you need to navigate this ancient and fascinating book.

Book Description
Gen 1:29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. Gen 1:30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground--everything that has the breath of life in it--I give every green plant for food." And it was so. Gen 6:3 Then the LORD said, "My Spirit will not contend with humans forever, for they are mortal; their days will be a hundred and twenty years." And then man could eat everything much, much later in Gen 9:3 Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything. Putting aside all of the environmental factors of a pre-flood world (where lifetimes lasted a lot longer than they do today), I’m convinced the answer has more to do with senescence: a state of unnoticed aging, a quality existing in Adam and Eve’s DNA before the Genesis 6:3 decision of God. So why did God give Methuselah and a few others this quality to live for a lot many years—longer than anyone else in human history? What helped our progenitors live longer? Is it just senescence, or senescence enhanced by the food they ate? Was their DNA better than ours? Good luck convincing any scientist to take a look at the information contained in those two mentioned sources: the Bible and Enuma Elish. Even when they look at other things that are non-spiritual, scientists most often will discard any theory unless it was Western-tested and approved. What is still ironic and symptomatic of the conservative academic climate is that discoveries, theories, and evidence vigorously denied by the experts then can be accepted later, after it has been approved without a shadow of a doubt as a scientific truth. This was the same latter-day scientific truth which was regarded as a ridiculous proposition earlier. This, therefore, is a permanent reminder of the intellectual apathy that reigned at earlier times. Such apathy still pervades the scientific cult society today, especially when it comes to matters rooted in the Bible. There is research aimed at answering these and other questions. I was shocked at what I found, which has radically changed the way I choose and prepare my foods. I hope this book helps you too.
