Book Description
Scholars of the social sciences have devoted more and more attention of late to the concept of human happiness, mainly from sociological and psychological perspectives. This volume, which includes essays from scholars of the New Testament, the Old Testament, systematic theology, practical theology, and counseling psychology, poses a new and exciting question: what is happiness according to the Bible? Informed by developments in positive psychology, The Bible and the Pursuit of Happiness explores representations of happiness throughout the Bible and demonstrates the ways in which these representations affect both religious and secular understandings of happiness. In addition to the twelve essays, the book contains a framing introduction and epilogue, as well as an appendix of all the terms used in reference to happiness in the Bible. The resulting volume, the first of its kind, is a highly useful and remarkably comprehensive resource for the study of happiness in the Bible and beyond.

Book Description
In Reattachment Theory Lee Wallace argues that homosexuality—far from being the threat to “traditional” marriage that same-sex marriage opponents have asserted—is so integral to its reimagining that all marriage is gay marriage. Drawing on the history of marriage, Stanley Cavell's analysis of Hollywood comedies of remarriage, and readings of recent gay and lesbian films, Wallace shows that queer experiments in domesticity have reshaped the affective and erotic horizons of heterosexual marriage and its defining principles: fidelity, exclusivity, and endurance. Wallace analyzes a series of films—Dorothy Arzner's Craig's Wife (1936); Tom Ford's A Single Man (2009); Lisa Cholodenko's High Art (1998), Laurel Canyon (2002), and The Kids Are All Right (2010); and Andrew Haigh's Weekend (2011) and 45 Years (2015)—that, she contends, do not simply reflect social and legal changes; they fundamentally alter our sense of what sexual attachment involves as both a social and a romantic form.

Book Description
The Pursuit of Happiness: Between Prosperity and Adversity looks at activities, practices, and experiences that are instrumental in changing one's level of well-being. This book focuses on the situations in which well-being is challenged, or even decreased, and explore, guided by Dialogical Self Theory, pathways that lead to its elevation. Research has suggested that there are three main determinants of well-being: genetic factors, one's individual's history, and happiness-relevant activities. The third and most promising means of altering one's happiness level are activities and practices that require some degree of effort. A surprising finding is that these personal efforts may have a happiness-boosting potential that is almost as large as the probable role of genetics, and apparently larger than the influence of one's individual history. Efforts are invested in fields of tension between prosperity and adversity. The Pursuit of Happinesscovers a variety of topics, such as finding happiness and wellbeing in the face of extreme adversity, the role of honesty in genuine happiness, the promise of minimalistic life orientations, the value of inner silence, evaluating our lives from a future perspective, and the relationship between happiness, career development, counselling and psychotherapy. This book was originally published as a special issue of the British Journal of Guidance & Counselling.

Book Description
ÿThis book uses a new theory of self and personality to explore and explain the mystery of happiness. The author, a teacher, psychologist and cognitive behaviour therapist, explains how the key to happiness is understanding your reality and how it relates to the past, present and future, including love, sexuality, employment, education and work. Partly written as an antidote to feminist extremism, The Pursuit of Happiness will help readers, whatever their age, culture, ethnicity, wealth or physical condition, to plan a route to a happier future - first by exploring what happiness really means and how today's society has lost sight of it, and then by setting out in a variety of real-life situations how it can and should be achieved. The key is a new concept developed by the author called the RDF - the Reality Differential Factor, designed to explore, and exploit, the realisation that happiness is relative.

Book Description
This book examines Adam Smith’s main principles in Wealth of Nations as the basis for effective policymaking. Adam Smith wanted to increase happiness through this formula for a good life: equality, liberty, and justice. Free market interpretations of Smith, the book argues, grossly misrepresent his thought, emphasizing only liberty and not also equality and justice. This book suggests policies that combine all three in order for happiness to be maximized.
