Book Description
Jan Evans and her husband are retired and living in their dream home on their favorite lake in the Ozark Mountains. They bought their lake lot in 1986, and Mrs. Evans really did spend nearly 25 years designing their dream home. She is the daughter of a Realtor/builder/developer, and has been drawing floor plans, just for fun, for 50 years. She started out in Interior Design and drafting in college, but later found her true "calling" in special education Mrs. Evans is now a retired speech pathologist and special education teacher. Therefore, she is obviously not an architect nor an engineer. However, she has either added on to, upgraded, or remodeled all the homes she has ever owned prior to designing their current home at the lake. Her father also remodeled all three of their family homes that she lived in as a child, so home design has always been a passion of hers After realizing her life-long dream of designing and building her "dream home", Mrs. Evans decided to write a book about the whole experience, even if it was just for fun and family She has always been a prolific writer, but has never attempted to publish any of her writings until now. Some of her writings have been fictional, some educational, and some technical, all mostly for her children or her school Since Mrs. Evans has known many people over the years who shared her interest in designing their own custom home, she decided to share her mistakes as well as her successes with others who may be interested in doing the same.

Book Description
Children's, Parenting, Health How Would You Feel If a Close Relative Got Sick and Had to Go to the Hospital? With this book, you can help a child cope with such family illnesses. Jonathan feels guilty and afraid. Hurt because his grandfather couldn't spend more time with him, the boy lashed out at Grandpa with mean words. That night, Jonathan learned that the grandfather had suddenly become very sick. Jonathan and his mom then traveled to the city to wait for news about the grandfather's emergency surgery. So begins Jonathan's journey into the "no-kid's land" of the hospital. Where a child can't yell, play or run. Where the television is always on—but often without sound. And worried adults seem not to notice their kids, except to say "everything in OK." But children can tell otherwise. Jonathan can only guess what is really happening with Grandpa and why. Did his angry words make Grandpa sick? Will he ever get the chance to say "I'm sorry" or "I love you, Grandpa" again? Jonathan's neighbor, a nurse, finds the boy lost in a hospital hallway. With her help, Jonathan finds the way back to his mom and a better understanding of illness, surgery and what he can except while Grandpa is healing. Esther Pearlman's illustrations bring the hospital experience to life from a kid's point of view, featuring scenes a child with an ill relative will identify with. Pearlman's sketches and observations of her grandchild during her husband's recuperation from surgery formed the basis for this collaboration with writer Melody Girard. Any Parent Who Has Had a Loved One in the Hospital Knows the Value of Explaining this Experience to a Child Esther's Pearls Publishing Santa Monica, California

Book Description
Except for remodeling out first home, my wife and I had no experience in building yet dared to built two homes: a custom one for our growing family and, later, one for our retirement. Though the book is well illustrated, it is not a step-by-step instruction on how to build a home, but one well detailed in all phases of construction. . Our retirement home, built with concrete blocks, reinforced with steel, is a more permanent structure. Let me put it this way: it is not an overstatement if I say our retirement home will last thousands of years, one that will have people wondering, who the heck built a Greek temple on a California mountain? We did not go into the project blindly. The key words are research and taking the time to visit building sites. In my work clothes of white shirt and tie and with clipboard for taking note, I was seen by most laborers as a typical office worker doing his tedious job. Please try to be unobtrusive while questioning workers in different stages of construction. Carpenters were helpful in demonstrating the safe use of power tools. Stucco men loved to show off the different textures they created, Spanish lace their favorite. I strongly recommend that my readers visit construction, and please get permission from a job foreman. Good luck.
